5 TIPS TO TACKLING ONLINE SCHOOL

Who here is so over distant learning?! oh yes me! I know for a lot of us it’s been a struggle. I have been doing online schooling for the past 3 years and let me tell you I’m still learning my groove with it. These tips have helped me get better at doing online schooling because who really knows when we will all have to go back.

2. Use timers or timer apps

  • Here’s the real secret to tackling online school: using timers. My friend actually introduced me to an app called Focus Keeper. What I love about this app is that it gives your timers for your work and also timers for your breaks. If you’re anything like me, I get so distracted easily that I’ll forget that I have to do other things. This app may not even have to be just for school but if you need to keep focus on other work that needs to get done.

  1. Give yourself time for school

  • A lot of people think that just because you are at home, you can do your assignments and class at any time. Trust me, you totally can but sometimes you can lose track of that time.

  • I will give myself a time duration i.e 8:00am-10:00am to do my assignments and watch class lectures. This is going to force you to not think about doing other things. It will allow you to also manage your time.

4. 1 on 1 with your Professor

  • When I first started my online program, I was scared to ask my professor questions because I felt like “I should know this” or maybe because I hate confrontation (Libras, right?). At one point, not asking questions on my discussion boards or asking from my professor did affect my grades because I would just let myself not know and just be okay with that. I surrendered my pride and took a chance to ask my classmates and my professors for help because I was reminded that we are all going through this together. Your classmates are probably wondering the same questions, don’t think you are alone with these thoughts. You are helping not only yourself but your classmates succeed in class.

3. It’s in the details.

  • At least for my school, I don’t have zoom calls or lectures. My professors just make us pre-recorded videos or slideshows that have all the information. Don’t overlook the information mentioned when you are taking notes. You will have to at one point start teaching yourself the material and anything that is given to you in those lecture videos & your book are important!

5. Don’t take the easy route

YALL! I know how easy it is to just take a quiz and google the answer but trust me when I say it doesn’t help you. Studying online is a lot harder because you do have the ability to just access the answers via the World Wide Web. If you let yourself believe that’s how you will get the grade then you will get the grade but you will not retain anything. This is your sign to try harder, retain the information, and get the grade all at once.

I hope these little tips help in some way! If you guys ever need any help journeying through this time of distant learning. I am always here if you guys have questions or just want an ear!
